The OTL-650 I.C. receives a 6 bit serial binary input and converts it to a 64 bit serial output with the number of leading 1s equal to the 6 bit binary input number.
The binary input is transmitted MSB first and latched. The 6 bit is not repeated until the binary number is changed.
The 64 bit serial output is repeated continuously and fed to the OTL-444A I.C. where it is received by a 64 bit shift register and transferred to a 64 bit latch register. This latch register controls the number of LEDs that will be on in a 50 element LED thermometer type bargraph indicator. In other words, the maximum number of leading 1s in the 64 bit transmission is 50. The trailing 14 bits are always zeros. The conversion time shall be less than 100ms which is the time from when the 6 bit input is latched to the time a correct 64 bit output is latched in the OTL-444A.
